Taiwan is a recognised global pioneer in civic-technology & participatory democracy. vTaiwan emerged after the Sunflower Movement in 2014 as an initiative from the g0v (gov-zero) community as a decentralized open consultation process that combines online and offline interactions, bringing together Taiwan's citizens and government to deliberate on national issues. Since its introduction in 2014 it has been used in a number of ways to include citizen voices on important national issues such as regulating Uber. vTaiwan also experiments with novel uses of AI to facilitate consensus making with large-scale conversations. In 2023 vTaiwan was relaunched as a community-based project to tackle the challenge of creating inclusive AI.
digi-cnx:network for digital commons welcomes Peter Jiawei Cui, contributor to vTaiwan.
The event will start with a presentation by Peter, followed by an open discussion. The event is co-hosted with 4seas as part of a full-day program togETHer Tuesday.
